Both men and women should wear  hats to racing events. although it is not mandatory in the stands . While men wear top hats, women wear any hat that has a base more than 4 inches.
The art of wearing a hat by men is what they should be familiar with. There was , afterall a time when a gentlemen wouldn`t leave his home without one, but this rather staid convention is well and truly behind us. Recently, modern gentlemen wear hats by choice rather than necessity and as a result the etiquette that has once second nature to these men has deteriorated.

Removing Of Hats

It is generally accepted that a gentleman should remove his hat when indoors. There are few exceptions to this  rule, unless you`re few exceptions to this  rule, if you are in a eatery in which case you can get away with it.
Outdoors,things get more complicated though. A gentle man should remove his hat when he is saying goodbye to a lady. These notions have been invoke for decades  and would only be rude if men do not abide by it.

Tipping A Hat

When wearing a hat was an essential decorum, tipping it was an important business. It was and still is a way of displaying thanks or acknowledgement, and is considered as polite, although it is  usually done to women. a gentleman should tip his hat when a lady thanks him or in an instance when a subtle apology is needed.

Wearing Hats with Confidence

Though not a rule per se, but then, if you don`t wear your hat with confidence then you simply won`t be able to pull it off and it won`t look good.

Finally , it`s the way we wear the hats that either adds elegance to our look, or makes us look unkempt.
